Affordable therapy for Gay Men
Grounded in understanding. Goodstart Therapy offers a safe, affirming space for gay men to explore identity, relationships, wellbeing, and life’s challenges.
“Gay men you are so welcome here. You’re exactly where you’re meant to be. Come as you are. Stay as long as you need”.
— Julian Dineen, Gay Men’s Therapy Lead
Julian has extensive experience in the charity sector and a long-standing commitment to the LGBT+ community. He has developed particular expertise in supporting individuals facing challenges related to substance use, addiction, chemsex, and complex or overlapping needs.
Understanding the Experience
Gay men often navigate unique pressures. From family expectations and cultural narratives to experiences of stigma, discrimination, or internalised shame. These can affect self-esteem, relationships, and mental health in ways that are sometimes overlooked in mainstream therapy.
How we work
Supported by leadership with extensive experience in supporting the gay community, our carefully selected trainees appreciate the subtle differences and life experiences that shape the identities of gay men. Sessions provide a welcoming, confidential space where you can talk openly about issues such as:
coming out and evolving identity,
dating, relationships, and intimacy,
body image, self-worth, and sexual confidence,
chemsex, substance use, and harm-reduction,
and navigating family, cultural, or community expectations.
We meet you without judgement or political assumptions about what being yourself means to you. Therapy is tailored to your individual needs, drawing on evidence-based approaches that promote emotional wellbeing, practical coping skills, and sustained personal growth.
